Of course this can’t happen without the right people in place. We provide the people appropriate for each job – with the right experience and above all attitude. Their skills are used to interpret and present the client’s objectives and to move their project forward with the right controls and safeguards.

 

Steve Child
Managing Director, Schal Management

Steve Child

Steve Child heads up Schal. After joining the reformed Schal in 1997 he was promoted to the Schal Board and specialised in the management of the client project management team. From 2003 he managed all of the Schal activities in project management, CDM Services, Health and Safety Management and Sustainability Consultancy. Steve also sits on Board of TPS – Carillion’s engineering and architectural design group.

Steve started his career as a Civil Engineer working on Government projects for MOD, The Court Service, and Tate Gallery. As a project manager he managed major projects at Tidworth Garrison, Feltham Computer Mapping Facility. At Schal he has overseen the delivery of major high profile projects such as Trafalgar Square, National Assembly for Wales, Portcullis House Westminster. He has taken the group into the education sector and onto key frameworks with London Development Agency, Tubelines and DfES.

Steve has a reputation as a practical no-nonsense manager whose analytical abilities add value to Schal’s clients. He has integrated Schal into Carillion’s Consultancy business adding Schal’s specialist management capability to the engineering and architectural design, surveying, building regulations and building surveying services.

 

Joan Murray
Director, Compliance

Joan Murray

Joan is an Associate Director of Schal and heads the Compliance section. In this role Joan leads the Schal Building Control, Health and Safety Services, and Sustainability teams, ensuring that our clients’ objectives are clearly identified, understood and delivered.

Joan joined Schal in 1995 as a Planning Supervisor and in the year 2000, was promoted to head of the CDM Group In the Year 2002 she became an Associate Director of the business.

Joan is a Civil Engineer with a post graduate diploma in heath & safety management, and is a chartered member of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health.

Joan commenced her career with Carillion as a Health & Safety Manager for the London region and has specialised in CDM since 1995.

Her role within Schal involves Joan in managing & overseeing the implementation of the CDM-C and Client's Agent services on many high profile projects within the UK such as GCHQ, The Houses of Parliament, Natural History Museum, MOD Regional Prime Central and Queen Alexandra Hospital to name but a few of the many prestigious projects. Joan also carries out talks & seminars on the subject of CDM to various disciplines and clients within the industry.

Joan has built up a reputation of being a professional, competent manager with well developed marketing skills, which has contributed to the success of the business and has lead to the CDM roles being some of the key services offered by Schal today.

 

David Comper
Director, Delivery

David Comper

David was appointed the Deputy Director of Schal in 2004, and supports the Steve Child on all aspects of the day-to-day running of the business. He also manages the Delivery Team,, client Management, Building Surveying and Quantity Surveying, as well as representing Schal in some management roles within TPS – Carillion’s professional consultancy group. David has specific Director’s responsibilities within Schal’s client project management team, and is a focal point for the education sector portfolio.

David has been involved in the management of the Schal since 2002, and is an experienced Project Manager in his own right, with a wide experience of the successful delivery of high profile, high value and complex projects to major clients.

David is a qualified architect with in depth experience of working with public sector departments, sponsors and users at a senior level. As a project manager he has managed major developments for a number of clients, including Parliament, Special Hospitals, The Home Office, The Courts Service, MoD, British Airways and various Universities.

David is well known for his practical approach to project management. He has excellent communication and leadership skills, and is very adept at dealing with large and complex client organizations.
